
Southington - Clifford W. Kern, 91, of Southington, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Summit at Plantsville. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (Scholl) Kern. Cliff and Catherine had celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on July 5, 2007.
Born September 10, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Jahns) Kern. Cliff was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII in the Pacific, and was employed by Accurate Forging for 45 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Southington American Legion Post # 72 and the Calendar House. Cliff loved to golf and was an avid bowler, he bowled until March of 2007 twice a week.
Besides his wife he leaves a loving daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Stephen DelBuono of Plainville; two granddaughters, Deena Miller and her husband Robert of BatonRouge, LA and Darlene DelBuono of Plainville; great grandson Anthony Skrip of Plainville one sister Mary Gessner of E. Northport, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother John Kern and three sisters, Louise Stancheski, Vera Drage and Lillian Castelli.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Mary Our Queen Church, 234 Savage St., Plantsville for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the MidState VNA & Hospice, 1 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450.
