

Southington- John Timothy Foley, died peacefully Wednesday, July 27, 2011 one day before his 90th birthday, following a courageous two-year battle. John often known as ?Jack? in the Southington business community and ?Tim? in the neighborhood was a lifelong resident of Southington.
He was born July 28, 1921, the son of the late Edmund J. and Helen (Kranich) Foley. He had graduated from Lewis High School in 1939 and entered the U.S Army in 1940, serving in active duty with the 41st Infantry Division, in the Pacific and the Island of New Guinea, and obtained the rank of Captain. During his active military tenure, he was awarded The Bronze Star, The Combat Infantry Badge, The Presidential Unit Citation, The American Defense Service Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and The Purple Heart. Following active duty, he became a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. He was recalled into active duty during the Korean Conflict serving in Germany during the Reconstruction. He was a member of the CT National Guard Reserve until 1971.
In 1953, Jack formed a partnership with his friend Ralph Forgione, and began F & F Concrete Corporation in Plantsville. He and Ralph proudly started that company with two concrete mixers. F& F successfully grew to a much larger and updated fleet of equipment, serving customers throughout central CT. He retired from F & F in 1984.
Jack was also a partner in Pattenbrook Construction Co. in the 1960?s and 70?s, building Pattenbrook Country Club.
Mr. Foley was a former Director of the Southington Savings and Loan and the State Savings Bank, Cheshire Academy and the Southington YMCA. He was a member of the Exchange Club, the Knights of Columbus, a Life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, a member of the Retired Officers Association, a former Southington Volunteer Fireman and most recently a member of the Southington Board of Police Commissioners A passionate golfer, he belonged to the former Pattenbrook Country Club and Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, In recent years, when he golf score didn?t suit him, he enjoyed almost daily games of gin rummy with his friends at Shuttle Meadow. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, June (Burkhardt) Foley, his daughters, Michele Taylor and husband Tom, Colleen Corley, Rebecca Foley and Johanna Foley, his grandchildren, Vanessa, Matthew, Ryan, Wesley and Taylor and Jessica, three great grandchildren, Sophie, Marin, and P.J. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Jean Reeve and two brothers Robert Foley and Edmund ?Teddy? Foley.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St. at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. Thomas Cemetery.
