He was born in South Weymouth, MA and was the son of the late John James and Katherine (Tardif) Housman.
John was passionate about geology and never missed an opportunity to enlighten others about earth history, especially the origins of the Connecticut River Valley where he and Judi made their home.
He followed this passion to earn a bachelors in Earth Science from Boston State College and a masters in Geology from Boston University. As a professional Hydrogeologist, John co-founded HRP Associates, Inc., an environmental consulting and engineering firm that grew from humble beginnings to the successful nationwide company it is today.
John found great joy in discovery, whether through travel or treasure hunting with his metal detector. He collected rocks and coins, but above all, John loved to golf. At a young age, he and his father built and operated one of the first commercial miniature golf courses in Massachusetts, and as an adult John found peace golfing at The Club at New Seabury on Cape Cod and enjoying a piña colada at the beach bar afterwards.
In addition to his wife Judi, he leaves his three children: Justin Housman and wife Maura Duggan of Boston, MA, Daria Housman and husband Andrew Stolfi of Norwalk, CT, and Adam Housman and wife Lauren Cunningham-Housman of Germantown, NY; and six grandchildren Will, Rye, Max, Gia, Sophie and Archer, whom he adored. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Housman.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 11th at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
