Born February 1, 1920 she was the eldest daughter of seven children of the late Alexander and Lucy (Picano) DePastino.
Julia leaves her four children, Walter Truss and wife Marge of SC, Judith Maurer and husband Bob of AZ, Janet Ferracci-Carter of Southington and Kathleen Leograndis and husband Tim of FL; two step children, Paul Zarrella and Beverly Fiondella both of Southington; two sisters, Mary Dymond and Rose Lord; nine precious grandchildren, Walter Truss Jr., Sheryl Bedard, Bruce Truss, Michael Cwiekowski, Robert Cwiekowski , Gina Pellegrino, Thomas Ferracci, Amanda Leograndis-Lata and Eric Leograndis; sixteen amazing great-grandchildren, Corey and Zachary Truss, Kiyomi, Hudson and Yoriko Truss, Ryan and Rachael Bedard, Kelli and Allyson Cwiekowski, Ben, Evan and Cecily Cwiekowski, Jeffrey, James and Juliann Pellegrino and Harper Lata; her first great great-granddaughter Giselle Pellegrino and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Truss along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. We say all their names because with Julia it was all about her family and the children.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sarah Leograndis; three sisters, Alice Sartwell, Catherine Chmura and Lucy DeGumbia; a brother Alex DePastino; two sons-in-law, Edward Ferracci and Philip Carter.
Julia was somewhat of a devil, laughing at Sebastian and playing left, right & center. At the age of 100 she renewed her driver’s license and gave the DMV staff a good laugh at remaining a donor and her not so flattering picture that she was not so pleased with. She was also in tv commercials for Spartans II restaurant and Homemakers & Companions.
Her family would like to thank Ellie Dietz, Jean Barden, John Masucci, Lisa Noble, Pat DePaolo and Gina and Jeff Pellegrino for paying special attention to our mother for all her needs and special events which she looked forward to every day.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Southington. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington has been entrusted with the arrangements. Because Julia loved the programs at the Calendar House, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Calendar House Activities Fund, 388 Pleasant St., Southington, CT 06489.
