Kathy, a beloved mother, friend, and beacon of grace, passed away peacefully on May 30th, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 15, 1955, raised in Hamden and Orange, Connecticut, Kathy grew up surrounded by the warmth of her large family. Each of her parents were one of nine children finding her in the company of almost 30 Aunts and Uncles and so many cousins. She graduated from Amity High School, was the Female Student Athlete of her graduating class for her participation in Field Hockey, Track, and Cheerleading. She went on to pursue her passion for helping others by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from UCONN.
Kathy began her career as a Registered Nurse, where her compassion and dedication touched countless lives. Eventually, she transitioned into the health insurance industry, dedicating 30 years of service to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Her work was not just a career but a testament to her commitment to advocating for the well-being of others.
When it came time to put down roots, Kathy chose Southington—a decision deeply inspired by her favorite aunt, a cherished teacher in the town. Enchanted by the community's spirit, she and her late husband, Edward, made it home, raising their children.
Despite the challenges of her diagnosis, Kathy embodied resilience, facing each day with remarkable grace and unwavering optimism. Her strength was not just in how she fought but in how she lived—with gratitude and an open heart.
Kathy was an avid reader, often lost in the pages of a good book, accompanied by the comforting warmth of a cup of coffee. She found joy in the simple pleasures: devouring books, solving crossword puzzles, and staying engaged with medical journals. Her mind was boundless, and her intellect sharp.
She lived her life anchored by a profound sense of purpose, always giving selflessly to those around her. Kathy's spirit of generosity and gratitude leaves an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer be with us in presence, her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will forever remain in our hearts.
Kathy was predeceased by her son, Michael Laramee; her husband, Edward Laramee; her parents, Frederick and Mary Burgh; and her in-laws, Robert and Jean Laramee. She is survived by both of her daughters, Heather Kabel and Jacqueline Laramee of Southington, CT; her sister, Maureen Porter, and husband William of Madison, CT; her brother, Brian Burgh, and wife Linda of Milford, CT; her brother, Dennis Burgh of Orange, CT; her brother-in-law, William Laramee, and wife Susan of South Windsor, CT; her ex-husband and longtime friend, John Kabel of Stafford Springs, and her beloved nieces and nephews.
Kathy's memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to cross paths with her. She was, and always will be, a testament to the beauty of a soul who loved deeply.
Sincerest thanks to the team members of Mulberry Gardens of Southington and Regency House of Wallingford for taking such good care of Kathy and affording her with such a high level of dignity, supported independence, and respect in her final months. And special thank you to her neighbors who were very helpful with this transition and taking care of her cat, Mr. Tiggs.
