

Mary (DellaVecchia) Palazzo, 89, of Southington, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016, in the comfort of her loving family. She was the wife of the late Louis E. Palazzo, who was from Bristol. They were married 57 years
She was a former owner of Imperial Spring Co., along with her husband and their sons. Mary and her husband traveled for business to England, Switzerland, Italy, Japan and Hawaii with the industry group Spring Manufacturers Institute.
A lifelong resident of Southington, she was born on May 29, 1926, the daughter of the late Louis and Filomena (Picone) DellaVecchia. She graduated from Lewis High School in 1944. While in school she worked with her father and brothers at their auto repair business, the Southington Garage, on North Main Street, where Renaldo's Restaurant now sits. She also worked in the office at Peck, Stowe and Wilcox, and as a waitress at Cooke's Tavern in Plainville.
Mary was a Scrabble enthusiast, but family, music and religion were her passions. She was a gifted pianist. She was a parishioner first of St. Thomas Church, where she was a member of the Mothers Circle, and then of St. Dominic. There, for more than 30 years, the choir was her second home -- Wednesday night rehearsals, funerals, and of course, Sunday Mass. She taught religious education to fifth-graders in the Southington public schools.
Mary is survived by five sons: Louis B. Palazzo of Marion, Lawrence P. and wife Robin (Driscoll) Palazzo of Plantsville, Paul F. and Lorraine (Iannello) Palazzo of New York, Michael J. Palazzo of Bristol and Benjamin M. and wife Maria Serrano-Palazzo of Meriden, and five grandchildren: Christopher, Lee and Daniel; Alejandra and Benjamin. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, Jenny DellaVecchia, Frank DellaVecchia, Sisto DellaVecchia, Florence Triano, Helen Fietkiewicz, Viola DellaVecchia and Anthony DellaVecchia.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main St., to St. Dominic Church at 10 am for a Mass. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3-7 p.m.
