

Roy was born on December 16, 1928, the only child of the late Roy Allan and Grace (Bartholomew) Howe in Bantam, CT. He attended school in Bantam and Morris graduating from James Morris School in 1947. He was a graduate of the University Of CT Radcliffe Hicks School Of Agriculture.
After college Roy joined the National Guard and was later federalized into active duty into the US Army during the Korean Conflict stationed in Munich Germany.
Roy worked at SNET from May 3, 1953 until his retirement on December 29, 1989. He also worked at Seth Thomas and was the sexton at St. Maria Goretti Church. He truly enjoyed his employment with the town of Wolcott especially driving the Senior Bus until his illness in Dec of 2010.
He raised his children in Morris where he was very active in Town and the Congregational Church where he served as Trustee, deacon even the superintendent of Sunday school. He was a member of the Morris Volunteer Fire Dept, Bethlehem Public Health Board of Directors, Planning and Zoning Board, Litchfield South Layman?s Group, and was a life member and Master of the Morris Grange. In 1995 he received the Grange?s Golden Sheaf for 50 years of membership.
He married the love of his life Sheila Baird and moved to Wolcott in 1977. In Wolcott he served on the Local Emergency Planning Commission, Assessment Board of Appeals and belonged to the Democratic Town Committee. He was a member of the American Legion post #165 in Wolcott and was past commander.
He converted to Catholicism and joined St. Maria Goretti Church where he served on countless committees. One of his proudest accolades was receiving the St. Joseph?s Medal from the Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid UCONN men?s and women?s basketball fan and loved the Red Sox. His favorite hobble was operating his ham radio. Roy was a well liked and very respected gentleman, a wonderful handyman who could fix just about anything.
Besides his wife of 33 years he is survived by his daughter Jeannette and her husband Douglas Eastman of New Hartford, CT, Steven and his wife Lori Howe of Colebrook, Fred and his wife Carrie Howe of Harwinton, a step daughter Katherine Baird of Johns Creek, GA, two grandchildren Lindsey and Spencer Howe, step grandchildren Trey, Kara, Libby, Hailey Matassino, Julia Baird, two great grandchildren Jakob and Jayden Baird-Gruseck. He was predeceased by a step-son Philip Baird.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday 10 AM at St. Maria Goretti Church, immediately followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Burial with full military honors will be in Goshen Center Cemetery at 2 PM. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 Pm at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 690 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott.
