
WOLCOTT- William D. Phillips, 87, husband of Virginia (Tata) Phillips passed away Monday April 30, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenwich on January 2, 1920, he was the son of the late William and Helen (Alingham) Phillips. He served in the US Army during WWII. A retired employee of Arthur Russell Co in Bristol, he was also employed by Timex Corp and A.W. Haydon Co. After his retirement, he worked as a driver for the American School for the Deaf in Hartford. Mr. Phillips had been a Wolcott resident since 1954 and was a member of the Wolcott Land Owners Association and a parishioner of St. Pius X Church. He also enjoyed coaching Little league baseball in Wolcott in the 1960s. He was an avid outdoorsman, a member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club. In 1959 he was the State Champion in Archery. He was also a musician, playing the base in a band called the Pine Valley Drifters in the 1940s and was a member of the American Federation of Musicians. Besides his wife Virginia of almost 60 years, he was a wonderful father to his five children Linda and her husband Misch Lehrer of Albuquerque,NM, Curtis and his wife Rosemary Phillips of Wolcott, Glenn and his wife Jannette of Simi Valley, CA, Randy Phillips of Wolcott, Robert and his wife Maria Phillips of Litchfield, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother Gerald Phillips of MA and a sister Elizabeth Brown of OR. Friends are invited to a Mass on Friday 10 AM at St. Pius X Church 525 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott followed by military honors. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
