Zigmon M. "Ziggy" Duksa, 91, of Southington, died Thursday, February 7, 2008. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Clara (Kelpinski) Duksa. Born in Southington, October 18, 1916, son of the late Joseph and Frances (Smoron) Duksa, he was a lifelong Southington resident. He attended West Street School, graduated from Lewis High School, and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Ziggy operated Oak Bluff Farm on West Street, which has remained in the Duksa family for over 100 years. Oak Bluff started as a dairy farm, until he later converted it into a thoroughbred horse farm. He bred, raised and boarded horses that ran at all the major race tracks on the Atlantic coast from Maine to Florida. Ziggy and Clara were ardent travelers and traveled all over the world, spending the past 30 winters in Puerto Rico. A loving husband, father and grandfather, in addition to his devoted wife Clara, he leaves his two sons and daughters-in-law Thomas and Laura Duksa, of Harwinton, and Richard and Susan Duksa, of Bristol; his grandchildren Ryan, Cory, and Kelly Duksa, of Harwinton, and Claudia Duksa, of Bristol. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Anna Duksa, of Madison, Dorothy Duksa, of Newington, and Jane Rund of New Britain; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his three brothers Joseph, Walter, and Matthew, and his sister Helen Jankowski. His family would like to thank the staff at Southington Care Center for their care and compassion. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main St., Southington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Southington.
