

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Archie completed his apprenticeship and worked as a Fitter before moving to Canada in 1967 where he continued his trade at Foster-Wheeler (and later Trenergy) until his retirement in 2004.
Archie was a lifelong active member of the Masonic Lodge attaining high ranks. He was a Past Master of Lodge Grantham No.697 (now Garden City Lodge No.221), and was also a Past Master of Brock Daylight Lodge No. 745. Additionally, Archie was a member of the Royal Arch and involved with the Eastern Star.
A member of The Imperial Veterans Association in St. Catharines for over 50 years, Archie loved attending viewings of the UK and European football (soccer) games, and especially supported Glasgow Rangers and Partick Thistle.
Archie is predeceased by his wife Anne McLay (2024), step-son Stewart Hamilton (2022), his mother Barbara McLay, his twin brother Ian, who died as an infant, and his sister Barbara Armstrong.
He is survived by daughters Susan McLay of St. Catharines, Trish McLay of Musquodobit, Nova Scotia, and his first wife Patricia McLay, of St. Catharines. Archie is also survived by step-sons John (Birgit) Hamilton and Jim (Marlene) Hamilton, and step-daughter-in-law Martha (Stewart) Hamilton.
Archie was also “Papa” to step-grand-children: Vanessa, Andrew, Mary, Olivia, Sarah, Adam and Ian along with their partners and took great joy in seeing five great-grand children come along.
Archie had a special fondness for nephew David (Deborah) Armstrong of Bearsden Scotland, and their young son Alfie. David and family made a number of trips from Scotland to visit Archie over the years, the last of which was 2 months prior to his passing. Between visits they kept in regular touch teaching Archie how to Zoom.
In keeping with Archie’s pre-arranged wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of Hulse & English Funeral Home and there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
