An inspiring matriarch, Doris was beloved for her sense of humour, kindness to others, wisdom, generous spirit, love of life and sense of fun. She loved her family and cherished her many friends. Doris took great joy in traveling, music, a game of cards, and she always enjoyed a good story. For her, time well spent was an afternoon at the race track, testing her luck on a slot machine at the casino or splitting her winnings from a game of Bingo among friends.
Predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Cheevers (1971), Doris leaves behind daughters Carol Kerklaan (Al), Linda Mara (Peter), Nancy L’Ecuyer (Glen), and son Ted Cheevers (Jan), as well as grandchildren Laurie (Rob), Bob (Andrea), Cindi (Chad), Debbie, Sherri (Dave), Kim (Tim), Jason (Angie), Rob (Cortney), Melinda, and Kim, as well as many great-grandchildren.
The youngest of 19 children, Doris was born in London, England. She married the love of her life, a Canadian soldier, during the war and moved to Canada, settling in her new hometown of St. Catharines.
After her children became adults, Doris began working at city hall where she met many of her most cherished friends. Doris made a lasting impression on everyone she met and will be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
No visitation or funeral service will take place, a celebration of her wonderful life will be Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the Social Room at the Kiwanis Senior's Complex, 321 Geneva St. St. Catharines.
