It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ed. He was surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, August 20th at the St. Catharines Hospital. Ed will be greatly missed by his devoted and caring wife Helen of 56 years. Loving Dad of Mark (Larissa), Paul and Tamara (Tom) Steele. Adored Dedee to 7 grandchildren; Tiana, Adrianna and Taryn Tkach, Rochelle and Mitchell Tkach, Dalton and Bradley Steele. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Michael (1977) and Anastazja (1994). He will also be remembered by his best man, best friend and brother-in-law Tony (Lucette) Trus, sister-in-law Janya (Jim) Tibbs, Goddaughter Michelle, daughter-in law Janet, and his nephew Rick and niece Kim. Ed leaves behind extended family in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ohio, New York and Ukraine. Ed was a life long resident of St.Catharines and member of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He designed and built the family home with his usual meticulous attention to detail. Ed had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed his work as a tool and die maker at Lightning Fastner and then General Motors until his retirement in 2000. His passion was cars, photography and everything about space.
Friends will be received at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME, 75 Church Street, on Thursday, August 23rd from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 pm, where Panachyda (prayers) will be held at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be officiated by Rt. Rev. Mitered Archpriest Gregory J. Mielnik at St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 65 Facer Street on Friday August 24th at 10:00 am. Interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In memory of Ed, those who wish may make a memorial donation to the Restoration Fund at St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
