Dad grew up in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, the middle of 7 children. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and settled in Nova Scotia. He married his fiancée Riek, who arrived a year later. Dad was a horticulturalist and loved working with flowers. After 11 years in Nova Scotia he moved to Ontario with his wife and 6 children. Dad excelled as a flower grower and gave advice to others when consulted. His move to the Niagara Region enabled him to own his own greenhouse business. Dad was a member of Covenant Church and was an elder for many years. He loved playing chess, croquet, reading, walking, biking, making survivor bands, leather crafts and searching for different species of wild flowers. He and mom travelled to many distant places and enjoyed camping and exploring.

He is survived by his loving children Evert, John(Janet), Hank(Annette), Joanne Vink (John), Freda Prins(John) and Aubrey(Heather).
