Passed away, peacefully, on April 18, 2016 at Niagara Gardens in St. Catharines, Ontario. Herb was in his 93rd year, born on June 16, 1923 in Sunderland, England. He came to Canada with his parents (Arthur and Elizabeth Nesbitt) and older brothers (Arthur, Norman, Joseph, and Robert). Herb attended St. Catharines Collegiate but his education was interrupted by the advent of WWII. Sgt. Pilot Herb Nesbitt served in the RCAF as flight instructor at Centralia Air Force Base near London, Ontario. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Mae Holding in 1943. After the war, Herb and Mary made their home in St. Catharines where they raised their sons, Herb (Jr.) and James. Herb worked for Sheehan Plumbing and Heating for about 60 years. Herb and Mary were very involved with the Boy Scouts of Canada; Herb was District Commissioner for many years. He suffered the loss of his precious grandson, Herbie (January 1994) and his beloved wife, Mary (December 1994). Herb was involved in sports such as golf, curling, and lawn bowling. During the past 15 years, he enjoyed quiet walks and traveling with his partner, Edith Hansen; together, they also continued to golf and bowl. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Niagara Gardens in St. Catharines and at Queen’s Square in Galt, where Herb spent many happy years. Herb is survived by Edie, his sons; Herb (Arja) and Jayme, his grandson Weston (Melissa) and great-grandchildren; Ethan, Meghan and Hailey. He was always there for us…we’ll miss him!
