It is with great sadness that we announce that Hilde Katharina Guggi (nee Muller) died on Dec. 20, 2013 at the age of 80. She was born in Franzfeld, Yugoslavia on May 11, 1933 and endured the chaos and horror of World War 11 as a child, losing her mother and sister at age 11. She met Alfred, who later became her husband, on the boat to Canada in 1951. Hilde always saw the good in people. She was a kind, compassionate soul who bestowed much love on her children and delighted in spoiling her grandchildren. She was a tremendous cook who turned her Queen Street home into a warm refuge she often called "heaven on earth." She won several Trillum awards from St. Catharines for her beautiful and creative gardens.
She leaves behind Alfred, her brother Joseph Muller and his wife Inge, daughters Roswitha with husband Ken MacQueen, Anita and Andrew Kent, Heidemarie and Simon Bradbury, grandchildren Daniel, Gaelan, Cameron, Katie, Malcolm and Thomas, many nephews and nieces and dear friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Elisabeth, her father Mathias Muller, sisters Magda, Susanne Seiler, Elli Enskat and brothers Fritz and Michael. Her beloved cat Princess died a few months earlier.
The family will be forever grateful for the exceptional care of Dr. Wayne Gruber and the compassionate staff of Hospice Niagara, “a five-star hotel,” said Hilde.
Family will receive friends at the Hulse and English Funeral Home, 75 Church St. (905-684-6346) on Monday Dec. 23 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family. On-line tributes may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com.
