

James ( Jim) Edward Forbes was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, James (Jim) will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Jim was born on November 10, 1953 at Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario. He was the son of Jack and Joan Forbes. Jim grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Jim was raised with one sister and five brothers. He had one older brother Rick, four younger brothers Bob, Bruce, Brian, Gary and one younger sister Barbara. Jim was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Jim had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Jim was an active child who took part in hockey and golf. He was a Scouts. In his spare time he liked stock racing cars and car models. However, to Jim, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Jim had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Merritton High School. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Jim enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. Later in life, he became friends with Glen Woodhouse.
Jim worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Jim was blessed with two children, a daughter Stephanie and a son Marc.
Fortunately, Jim enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Jim worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was entrepreneur. Jim always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Jim found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included bowling, golf and walking. Jim was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were Nascar and golf.
Jim enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places, experience new things including Israel, Europe, Florida, Tahiti and Mexico.
Jim passed away on May 13, 2012 at St. Catharines, Ontario. Jim died from a massive heart attack. Services were held at Niagara United Mennonite Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Jim was laid to rest in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
Simply stated, Jim was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Jim leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember James (Jim) Edward Forbes.

FORBES, James Edward – Suddenly on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, James Forbes passed away in his 59th year. Loving father to Stephanie Marie and Marc Edward and remembered by their mother Claire. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Joan Forbes. Dear brother to Rick (Ellen), Bob (Elly), Bruce (Kim), Brian (Corinne), Barbara (Darrell) Smart and the late Gary (1970). Jim will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews: Tracy, Adam, Jennifer, Jill, Ian, Gary, Apryl, Darren, Melanie, Kathleen, Haley and Larissa. Jim was an entrepreneur in many business successes including being the owner, operator and founder of Desks Plus.
The family will receive friends at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346), on Wednesday, May 16 from 7 – 9 pm and on Thursday, May 17 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral Service to take place on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 am from the Niagara United Mennonite Church, 1776 Niagara Stone Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake, followed by cremation. Donation to the St. Catharines General Hospital, New Site, The Jim Forbes Room would be appreciated by the family.
