Johannes "John" Verkuyl

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Johannes (John) Verkuyl, who died peacefully on April 30, 2026, at the age of 96.

Beloved husband and best friend of Janny, they shared a remarkable 71-year marriage built on love, loyalty, and quiet strength. Together, they created a life full of family, laughter, and enduring memories that will always be cherished.

A devoted father to Ron (Mary-Ann), Darrell (Alison), and Joyce (Vic), he was the steady foundation of the family, the one everyone turned to for guidance, support, and wisdom. He was predeceased by his children, Deborah and John, whom he always held close in his heart. He was a proud and loving Opa to Ashlyn (Lee), Brock (Cynthia), Alex (Katrina), Corey (Logan), and Alyssa, and a Great Opa Joe to Adrian, Ariana, Kaitlyn, Reece, Matthew, and Milo, each of whom brought him great joy.

John was known for his strong work ethic and took great pride in being a provider for his family. He approached life with determination, integrity, and a sense of responsibility, earning the respect of everyone who knew him. Whether at work or at home, he showed up fully and reliably, never seeking recognition but always deserving of it.

He had a sharp mind and a wonderful sense of humour that could light up any room. It would appear at just the right moment—subtle, perfectly timed, and often catching you off guard. It was one of the many ways he connected with people and made them feel at ease.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
