John Douglas Hill

1927- 2026

Passed away during a short stay at the St. Catharines General Hospital on July 21, 2026 in his 100th year. Predeceased by his wife Mildred, parents George and Myrtle Hill , his brother Robert Hill, his sister Georgina (Chicky) Jukes and his son Wayne Hill. He will be dearly missed by his children Lynda Laycock, Wendy (John) Fishleigh and Bryan ( Sally) Hill and his daughter-in-law Susan Hill

(the late Wayne). Pa or PaPa to Sarah Hill, Laura Hill-Delano, Kevin Laycock, Christopher Laycock, Michael Fishleigh, Tara Fishleigh, Heather Richard, Shawn Hill, Kimberlea Hill-Rees, and their families, and to his 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.

John was a jack of all trades. If there was a need he could figure it out. Starting at a young age at Foster Wheeler, he moved to McKinnon Industries then to General Motors where he was a valued employee. John never walked when he could jog and never jogged when he could run. He was always on the move unless he found a good book.He had a passion for wood working and his building projects were too many to list and he was still doing it well into his 90's.

John was a Freemason for over 75 years at lodge #103 St. Catharines.

His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Tufford Retirement Home. They loved him dearly and their care was genuinely unparalleled. The St. Catharines General Hospital doctors and staff who made his final hours filled with care and compassion.

As per John's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held.

He wanted to be remembered with happiness. Please have a cup of coffee and a donut and remember one of the good ones. He truly was the best. And if you think about it a splash of Bailey's in the coffee would work too!
