Hills, John D: In his 92nd year passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Saturday morning, Feb. 26, 2011 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Vera (2005), daughter Penney (2003), son Reg (2005) and Reg’s wife Gail (2006) leaving his son Wayne (Marilyn). John is survived by 8 grandchildren & 16 great grand children and numerous nieces & nephews. John was a W.W. II veteran who served with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. He was taken prisoner on the Dieppe Raid and spent 3 years as a P.O.W. Later, John joined the first Town of Merritton Police Force as a constable. After amalgamation, he then went into the Niagara Regional Police Dept. In 1980 at age 60, John retired from the police force holding the rank of Staff Sergeant in Grimsby. The last few years, John resided at the Heatherwood Retirement Home in St. Catharines where he kept staff and residents entertained with his stories and happy greetings.
