

It is with sadness we announce John’s passing on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Hospice Niagara, at the age of 75. Proud father of Andrea McQuay-Orbell (Jeff Vyse). Beloved partner of Caren Chapman. Dear brother of Sandra (Rick) Stanley, Linda (Dave) Robinson, the late Jerry McQuay and the late Jim McQuay. Predeceased by his parents Norma and Bob McQuay, and his step-father Jim Kerivan. He will be remembered by Caren’s children: Chad, Derek, Alison, and MaryAnn; as well as Andrea’s mother and John’s longtime friend Sue Orbell. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
John was a lifelong “Port Boy” having been born and raised in Port Dalhousie. He was an avid golfer and was a Lacrosse player in his youth, eventually coaching other kids in the sport through the years.
John was an entrepreneur throughout his life owning a number of businesses, most notably Pla-More Bowling Alley in Port Dalhousie, Johnson Insulation and most recently John McQuay Home Improvements where he retired from in 2020.
A special thank you to his Paramed team, especially Helen and Paul, the Niagara on the Lake Palliative Care, PCOT, and the Hospice Niagara teams for the exceptional care they extended to John. Heartfelt thanks to Holly Rousseau and Roan Meredith from Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, for taking care of John following his passing.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church St. St. Catharines. A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 3 p.m. If desired, memorial donations made to either Hospice Niagara or the Niagara-On-The-Lake Community Palliative Care Service would be appreciated by the family.
