John Vangeloff

it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Vangeloff on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital in his 90th year. John is survived by Maria (Mary) Vangeloff, his beloved wife of almost 52 years, who will miss him dearly. John will also be missed by his brother Bob (Robert) Vangeloff, his cousin Evangelos (Koula) Kotoris, and brother-in-law Jim (Jean) Linders. He will be lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews: Lisa Linders, John (Lisa) Linders, Donald (Janice) Linders, Heather (David) West, Carl (Anna) Kotoris, and Chris (Faye) Kotoris as well as by many great-nieces and great-nephews. John was a veteran of the Second World War and afterwards graduated from the Univeristy of Toronto, Trinity College. John went on to become a teacher at Merritton High School and Laura Secord Secondary School. His education fostered his love of history and classics, and made him a stickler for grammar. He was a mason and member of Mountain Lodge #221 as well as a member of St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church. John was also an avid swimmer, member of the Niagara Region Orchid Society, and faithful volunteer for the Folk Arts Art Show for 25 years. He will be missed by his coffee buddies at the Pendale Tim Horton’s. As an animal lover, he enjoyed the faithful companionship of many dear pets over the years and will be sorely missed by Perry. A special thank you to the staff at Shaver for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346) A Funeral Service will be performed by Father David (Graham) Scott at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 14 Rolls Ave. St. Catharines on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
