In her 91st year, Joan passed away peacefully on April 22, 2018. She was the dear wife of Dr.
Wayne H. Tester; cherished mother of Ian and his wife Nancy of St Catharines, Lynn and her
husband Jim of Minesing, Cheryl and her husband Dave of Wellandport. Caring
Grandmother to Sarah, Chris, Rob & Devon, Lauren & Titan, Tom, Jill, Tyler, Brandon, Kyle,
Graeme & Sarah, Erin & Jason. Great Grandmother to Madeleine, Hudson, Sawyer,
Benjamin and Jackson. Predeceased by her parents Marguerite (nee Gardhouse) and Alfred
John Story, Wayne’s parents Annie (nee Morick) and Harold Tester. Sister to her brothers,
Al & his wife Louise, and Roger (predeceased) & his wife Maxine. Joan had a most kind and
generous spirit devoted to the care and well being of her family and friends.
Joan grew up in Owen Sound, Ontario and was an excellent student at Owen Sound
Dufferin Public School and OSCVI High School 4 year and 1 Year Special Business program.
After graduation she was employed by North American Life Assurance Co and later was
Secretary to the city solicitor. Joan was involved at Westside United Church in numerous
activities; this being the church where Joan and Wayne were later married.
Joan & Wayne moved to St Catharines from Chesley in late 1955 where she worked with
Wayne in his Dental office until she became a homemaker to raise their growing family and
care for her ailing mother. They joined Mountainview United Church where their family
experienced Christian living. Her favourite activities were tennis, curling, skiing, hiking in
the outdoors, and working in her summer flower gardens. She loved reading, oil painting,
puzzles and spending time at the family cottage on Lake Huron. She lived her life full of
love for her family and friends and will always be remembered by those whose lives she
touched with grace, beauty, kindness, a great sense of humour and laughter.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who cared for Joan over the years of
her Illness. Special thanks to Dr Roger Rose & staff, Palliative Nurses Jan & Janine, Care
Partners Supervisors Karen & Nicole, PSW’s Mary, Roz, Angie, Kelly, Victoria, Angela, &
Lacey.
Family and Friends will unite to Celebrate Joan’s Life at Mountainview United Church at
11:00 am on May 12, 2018. Internment is to be in Owen Sound Greenwood Cemetery.
