Marguerite died on Monday, March 18, 2013 of an infection acquired in the St. Catharines General Hospital. It is sad that this was allowed to occur, after a thoroughly successful surgery for a broken hip. In spite of her frailty she came through the surgery better than we could have hoped due to the skill of Dr. Martin and his anesthetist. She had been increasingly ill for some time. She celebrated her 91st birthday in hospital. She was born in Toronto. Her father was Gordon Wallace, the founder of the engineering firm Wallace and Carruthers. Her mother was Janet (Jean) Strang Hanna Wallace both deceased. Her brother Murray is also deceased. She graduated from University College (U. of T.). She was the beloved wife of Lt. Edwin Franks, U.S. Air Force, missing in action in the South Pacific in March 1945, but leaving her with two children; a son Brian who married Joy Street by whom he had two daughters Kathy Franks (Calgary) and Dr. Wendy Franks (Norwich, England). He later married Pam Franks, now of Burlington, Ontario. Brian died in 2008. Marguerite’s other child was a daughter, Laurel Roberts (Jim) of Calgary with three children; Joanna, Daniel and Lorraine Braun (Andrew) and her two children, Carter and Kaitlyn. Marguerite moved to Three Hills, Alberta, some sixty years ago, principally for the sake of her children, where she had a great but unofficial influence for good on the student body of Prairie Bible Institute. She left all that, and a widow’s pension, in April 1979 to marry Dr. Edgar Peer of St. Catharines where she was his resurrection and the step-mother to his motherless children; Adrienne, Ian, Sheila, Cindy, and Nancy. Our special thanks to Dr. Peter Bolli for the care that preserved her so long.
