Maria Fuhrmann

It is with deepest sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Maria Fuhrmann on November 2, 2024 at age 95, she passed away peacefully at Niagara Health – St. Catharine’s Site.

Beloved wife of late Helmut Fuhrmann. Dear Mother to Regina Hargreaves and her husband David Hargreaves of Niagara Falls; Liane Smith and husband Mike Smith of Windsor; late Hans Fuhrmann his late wife Kathy Drake of British Columbia and partner Wendy Courtis of the Maritimes.

Adored Oma (grandmother) to Rebecca Hargreaves of West Lincoln, Deirdre Hargreaves and her husband Jason Babcock of Stoney Creek; Jonathan Smith and wife Lisa Hoseny of Whitby; James Smith of Barrie.

Cherished Oma (great grandmother) to Hannah Hargreaves, Emma Ratajczyk; Kaela Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Mariah Smith; and Logan Smith.

She will be deeply missed by her extended families of Reif, Rousek, Fuchs, Fuhrmann, Heinz and Bothe as well as friends.

Born in Prachatitz a town in the Region of Czech Republic; moved to West Germany near Frankfurt; then immigrated to Canada in 1956.

Attended 2 years of Teachers College and Business in Office Procedures, background in nursing in Germany. Then continued studies in Canada.

Hobbies and passions were numerous: gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, needlepoint, petit point, quilting, ceramics, stained glass, clay modeling, crossword puzzles, bingo…

Loved dancing and listened to all types of music (Opera, symphony, big bands, waltz…)

Family was the center of Maria’s life and cherished time spent together. Always a gracious hostess and pride taken in home cooked meals.

Always there to lend a helping hand in the community.

Family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Niagara Health – St. Catharine’s Site for their care and support both for Maria and her family.

There will be a private family service.
