

MAKARENKO, Mary – Very peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, Niagara Falls on Monday, March 10, 2003 in her 77th year. Beloved wife of 57 years to husband Alex and mother to the Rt. Rev. Fr. William (Wasyl) and his wife Dobr. Larysa and their children Dobr. Natalia and husband Rev. Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora and their children Alexandra and Anton, daughter Tamara and son Paul; Very Rev. Fr. Volodymyr (Walter) and his wife Dobr. Olia and their children Walter Jr. and wife Natalka and their son Lukian, sons Gregory and Andrew and daughter Stephania; daughter Dobr. Olya Demczuk and husband Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan. Predeceased by her parents, brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Since coming to Canada, she was a lifetime member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and honorary member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada. For 40 years she and her husband Alex owned and operated several businesses in the hospitality industry most recently The Niagara Falls Motor Lodge in Niagara Falls (Chippawa). The Family will receive friends at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street,St. Catharines 905-684-6346 on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Panakhyda in the Chapel on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Ukrainian Orthodox Rite of Funeral will be celebrated in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George, 65 Facer Street, St. Catharines on Friday, March 15, 2003 at 10 a.m. with chief Celebrant being His Eminence Archbishop Yurij, assisted by parish priest Fr. Michael Ozimko and visiting clergy. Interment to follow in St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville. In lieu of flowers donations to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George, 65 Facer Street, St. Catharines L2M 5R2 or the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada Foundation, 9 St. John’s Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 1G8 would be deeply appreciated.
