Mary “Midge” Neill in her 95th year died peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 18, 2025, with family and her little dog “Cosie” by her side. Born March 21, 1930, in Kirkland Lake, her family moved to Niagara where she was raised on a beautiful farm on the “Middle Rd.” Midge fondly recalled the long country walks to and from Woodland School and she went on to graduate from The St. Catharines Collegiate. As a young lady she was an active member of Beta Psi and employed by Dr. W.J. Chapman and his wife Gladys and then went on to work in the law office of Bench-Keough and General Motors, where she met the love of her life, Bob.
Predeceased by her parents Frances and John Barich, Godmother Angela Koshmerl, her brother John Barich and husband, Robert Neill. Survived by children Robert Jr. (Mojo) of Calgary, James (Ngoc and Hieu) of Fredericton and Kelly (Edward) of St. Catharines and beloved grandchildren Harrison, Griffin “Pip” and Kenya. She will be missed by special long-time friends Mary K., Helen, neighbours and members of Knox Church. We all share wonderful memories of her antics and adventures and willingness to help.
Midge was a woman who faced each day with Christian conviction. She was perfect in most ways – as a wife, a mother and Nana. Nana Midge will be remembered for her dedication to family and friends, her love of writing letters, music, cooking, baking, mending, crafting, gardening and of a kind and generous heart that touched many lives.
A private family service of prayers has taken place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
Fond memories, special photographs and messages of condolences can be shared below for the Neill family.
