Robin James "Bob the Builder" Gushue

Robin James Gushue (Bob) came into this world on March 24, 1956 in St. Johns Newfoundland. He was the second son of proud parents Leonard James Gushue and Ruth Gushue (Jones). Robin spent his childhood and early teenage years growing up on “the rock” and was a proud Newfoundlander. The late 70’s and early 80’s found Robin working in Edmonton, Alberta as a shipper receiver. A move to be closer to family found Robin and his family moving to St. Catharines, Ontario. It was here that he found his interest in renovations and constructing homes that he became self-employed and fondly known as “Bob the Builder”.

For those who were lucky enough to know Robin, he was a true friend always willing to give a hand fixing things, his greatest passion. Most important he was a loving father who adored his three girls Robyn, Brittany and Stephany. Their greatest memory of their father was the time they spent with him on job sites installing floors, painting, and learning to use power tools.

A few things you may not know about Bob:

He was a fantastic cook and would enjoy cooking up Newfoundland Scoffs with cabbage, turnip, salt beef and cod for family and friends.

Robin passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007 peacefully surrounded by family at the St. Catharines General Hospital. He had courageously tried in the past six months to win the fight against lung cancer. Robin is survived by his three daughters, Robyn, Brittany and Stephany, his parents Leonard & Ruth Gushue, sisters Patti Ann Gannon(Neil) and Beverly Swanson and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother Arnold Gushue.

Visitation was held on Thursday September 6, 2007, from 12-2 p.m. at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel. Internment will be private on Friday, September 7, 2007 at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his children’s education fund.
