It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley. She was surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in the comfort of her own home. Shirley will be greatly missed by her devoted and caring husband Charles for over 62 years. Loving mother of Owen Steele (Val), Rosamund Robinson (Keith) and Thomas Steele (Tamara). Adored nanny of Diana Dorey (Don), Chris Steele, Cassandra Nollmann (Andrew), Nicole Robinson, Dalton Steele and Bradley Steele. Great grand nanny of Jayden Dorey and Chloe Dorey. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews Matthew, Alex and Meghan, her brother in law Bernard Steele (Barbara), her sister in law Verla Cowal, and her extended family and friends. Shirley is predeceased by her brother Anthony Fischer (Elizabeth) and her parents Harry and Freda Fischer.
Shirley was born and raised in St. Catharines, and graduated from Guelph University in Home Economics. She had a love of home cooking and traveling. She enjoyed spending her summers at her cottage in Muskoka. Shirley loved to play bridge with her close friends and she was a member of the St. Catharines Curling Club.
Family will receive friends at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME, 75 Church Street, on Sunday March 3, 2019 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday March 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Church, 99 Ontario Street. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
