Dr. Tanner was a Veterinary Surgeon, qualified at the University of London, England. Following service in the Special Air Service and Parachute Regiment, he came to Canada and joined the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve. He rose to the rank of Major and DCO of the Toronto Scottish Regiment. His working life was spent mostly with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in various countries of the world; Taiwan, Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, Vietnam, Azad Kashmir (Pakistan), PDRLao and Uganda. He was a past President of the Royal Niagara Military Institute and a past President of the St. Catharine’s PROBUS club. He was installation President of the North Niagara PROBUS club. Stanley was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2006 after 55 years of marriage. He will be missed by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place.
A Service of Remembrance will be taking place at St. George’s Church, 83 Church St. St. Catharines, on Wednesday February 1st, 2012 at 1:00pm, with an inurnment immediately following in St. George’s Columbarium. Donations made to St. George’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
