A special brother to Barb Wignall, Cy (Marg), Doug (Dorothy) and in-laws Jacquie Pratt, Theda and Ed Hucal, Ian and Eileen MacKellar. Many nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle LeRoy. Predeceased by his wife Kitty (1982), brother Leonard, and parents Leonard and Frances. LeRoy and his family emigrated to Canada from England when he was 14, taking up residence in the Welland and St. Catharines area. A proud Veteran of WWII as was his wife Kitty. They settled in Port Weller (The Beach) in 1946 and remained there until his recent passing. He was active with the community as a member of the Weller Pack Volunteer Fire Department and the Church of the Nativity. LeRoy was employed with Hayes Dana in Merritton and Thorold and retired in 1976 after 37 years as a tool and die maker. He kept busy in his retirement years , crafting wine cabinets (inspired by his daughter’s design); cheering his beloved Maple Leafs and listening to his favourite Elvis tunes. He was active as a Union Steward and Loans Officer for the company branch of the Hayes Credit Union, and a member of the Doric Club (Seymour Lodge). Port Weller and Municipal Beach provided many wonderful memories for LeRoy, Kitty and the family. His picture window view of the park, beach and lake were a constant source of enjoyment for LeRoy. His watchful eyes guided many a ship into and up the canal. Of particular interest was watching for the Port Weller Pilot Boat carrying his son to a waiting ship. Special thanks to Dr. Frendo and staff of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital for their care and concern. LeRoy always looked forward to the arrival of his home care worker, Sherri Slack, who was of great assistance and became a very special friend.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at THE HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346) on Friday from 7-9 pm.
