

Gene was the beloved husband of Ruth W. Stroup (nee Anderson); cherished father of Kim Stroup, Gail (Ed) Abrams, Kevin (Jane Turner) Stroup, Kristin (Jeffrey ) Ranek, Susan (Dr. Nicholas McClean-Rice) Simon, Thomas (Julia) Simon; loving grandfather of Jordan (Breanna) Stroup, Isaac (Michelle) Stroup, Myra (Craig) Kopaz, Jeffrey Abrams, Jason Abrams, Aaron (Jen Shobach) Abrams, Zachary (Alexandra) Stroup, Cary Stroup, Bonnie (Chris) Bassler, Andrew Stroup, Timothy Whalen II, Felecia (Bruce) Allman, Joshua Ranek, Jessica Kuechler, Laura (Kevin) Buehler, and Thomas "Nick" Simon, and the late Rebekah Ranek; dear great-grandfather of 18; dear brother of Roy (the late Marion) Stroup; brother-in-law of Mary Lou (the late Jesse) Stroup and Dorothy (the late Ralph) Anderson; dear uncle, great uncle, and a friend to many in his lifetime.
Gene was born in St. Louis to Roy Francis and Evelyn Irene Stroup. He attended Webster Groves High School. He entered the US Navy on December 28, 1945 and was honorably discharged October 24, 1947. While in the service, he worked as a radio technician. He received the World War II Victory medal. Upon leaving the service he enrolled on the GI Bill at Washington University where he received his certification in electronics. After several years in the electronics field, he went to work for the Veterans Administration at Jefferson Barracks as an electrician. He retired from the VA after many years of service.
Gene served his family and friends by helping out with many projects around their homes, and served his church faithfully by singing in the choir and answering the phones on Wednesdays.
Gene and Ruth were married 50 years on December 30th. After all these years he still lovingly referred to her as “his bride.”
Gene and Ruth loved to travel, not only around the United States and Canada, but also overseas to Bermuda, Denmark, and Italy, and enjoyed every minute they had together. Gene said the best part about traveling, though, was coming home.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 at 10am, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 505 South Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood MO 63122. Interment St. Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Lemay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene's memory made to Concordia Lutheran Church or Meramec Bluffs Chapel are greatly appreciated by his family.
