

After a well lived life, Floyd passed away on April 23, 2012 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Mary Lou McBride (nee Blackman) for 58 years; loving father of Tim McBride, Laura McBride, Martha McBride-Rummel (Ron) and Mary Elizabeth McBride (Andrea Casalett); loving grandfather of Courtney & Milena Rummel, and Hannah & Olivia McBride Waidmann. Dear big brother of Richard (Grace) McBride and Kathleen (Bill) Adams. Admired uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, teacher, respected judge and friend to many.
He started his storied professional career at the age of 9 selling Alka-Seltzer calendars and held many jobs that included paperboy, printer's devil, clerk at Famous-Barr, assembly line worker at Ford Motor Company, stockboy, postal clerk & laborer. But his favorite was selling scorecards at Sportsman's Park during the World Series between the Cardinals and the Browns. Floyd graduated from Beaumont High School in 1948 and Harris Teachers’ College in 1952. He received his Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army in the 37th Infantry Division and the 112th Combat Engineer Battalion and attained the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, he was a teacher in the St. Louis Public School System, while attending St. Louis University Law School at night and graduating in 1960. Ten days after receiving his license, he tried and won his first case in the Supreme Court of Missouri.
His distinguished legal career was highlighted by the St. Louis City Counselor’s Office, his private practice of McBride & Simon, which he left in 1976 when appointed by then-Gov. Christopher Bond to serve as a Missouri Circuit Court Judge. He served as a trial judge for over 23 years and retired (mandatory) on August 1, 2000 from the the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court. From 2000-2010, served by appointment of the Supreme Court of Missouri as a Senior Circuit Judge, mediator in civil cases and appointed as a special master in the City of St Louis v. American Tobacco Company. He also attended the distinguished American Academy of Judicial Education at Harvard Law School.
He served on many civic and community boards including the St. Louis Zoological Commission, Almost Home and president of Hope Lutheran School PTO. He also worked as a speaker for the Central Democratic Committee and gave speeches for Hubert Humphrey, among other candidates.
SERVICES: Funeral at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary 12pm Mon., April 30, 2012, Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation 2-8pm Sun., April 29.
