Though it would be impossible for any tribute to fully capture his essence, Jim's accomplishments included service in the Marine Corps (OohRah) and The US Postal service. As a devoted poker player, Jim was rightfully proud most recently of taking first place in the National Texas Hold'em tournament in Las Vegas sponsored by the Moose International, the televised event stunning family and friends as they watched Jim execute the final winning games. Always a happy guy with a positive outlook, winning this national tournament saw Jim's normally happy outlook border on exuberance.
Jim, a humble guy with a big heart can't be defined in a few short paragraphs. Generous without limit, Jim shared any resource he had. Nameless strangers as well as family and especially his beloved military veterans often found themselves the beneficiary of whatever financial, material or emotional support he could provide. Jim was generous with his deep well of compassion, unquestioningly giving his time, comfort and moral support whenever he recognized a need. He knew how to forgive and forgive again, no matter the injury.
Intellectually curious, Jim was a loud and vigorous speaker dominating conversations as he shared recent discoveries, passionately quoted familiar and obscure baseball stats, Beatles music lyrics, Seinfeld trivia, etc. Text messages and multiple daily phone conversations kept Jim connected to the ones he loved.
Any of us who were lucky enough to know Jim relished his impromptu serenades, admiring his knowledge of popular music.
Amid all of these benchmarks, nothing superseded his unparalleled adoration of his three children and four grandchildren. As a father, grandfather, brother and friend as well as with himself, Jim seemed genuinely happy with his life. His journey to the next destination will find him happy and at peace
