

John was the loving husband of Rosemarie (nee Hudson) Lewis; devoted father of Leena Lewis and Jeanna (Eric) Bullock, and bonus daughter, Heather Dye; cherished grandfather of Trey Bullock and Aiden Bullock; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a friend to many in his lifetime.
John was born in St. Louis to Charles and Christine Lewis. He attend Roosevelt High School, home of the Roughriders. After graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army, and served 22 years, doing two tours of Vietnam. He served a year in Korea and three years in Germany. John retired out of Fort Leonard Wood in 1989. Among his many commendations he was awarded a Bronze Star.
John was preceded in death by his his sisters Shirley, Barb, and Mildred, and two brothers, Charles and Daniel.
John loved to play penny poker with friends. He played cards, checkers, and any sort of board games. He was good at horseshoes and camping, golfing and bowling. He coached his girls in bowling.
John was incredibly funny, generous, a great story-teller, and a very loving man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be Friday, January 30 from 4-8pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, 63109. Inurnment will be at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be bestowed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) would be greatly appreciated by his family.
