

Born on September 8, 1932 in Wadena, MN, Don lived a life marked by honor, service and devotion to family. He graduated from St. Paul Marshall High School in 1950. He briefly attended Hamline University before answering the call of duty and proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean War ('52-'54). He received his commission in 1960 and retired in 1988 from the Minnesota National Guard and United States Army. His military service was a defining chapter of his life and one that he carried with immense pride.
He was preceded in death by parents, Violet Love (Underhill) Wing and Glen Wing; his beloved wife of 56 years, Donna; and daughters, Bonnie Zschokke and Laura Valentine. He is survived by his children Joanne, Jim (Donna), Jean (Bill), John (Linda) and Judie; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and happiness.
Don was a life member and past commander of Anderson Nelson VFW (Post 1635) in St. Paul; life member and past commander of Arcade Phalen American Legion (Post 577) in St. Paul; life member 40/8 Voiture - St. Paul; life member Minnesota Chapter of Korean War Veterans; life member National Korean War Veterans Association; member Moose Lodge Chapter 1038 in Arizona City, AZ. Proud member of the 7th Infantry Division.
Don will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His pride in his military service, his unwavering values, sense of humor, and his deep love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate a life well-lived will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Ave, St. Paul from 11:00a-1:00p. Private interment with military honors will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the family and will be donated to Our Lady of Peace Hospice Home.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Minneapolis Veterans Home for the kindness, patience, and compassion shown in caring for our Dad. The dignity, comfort and reassurance you provided every day made such a difference to Dad and to all of us. May God bless you all.
