

It is with a broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother and uncle; Andrew (Face) Joseph Lafford, who passed in the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at 77 years of age.
Andrew was born in Sydney NS to the late Benjamin and Helen (nee Marshall) Lafford. He was a strong and humble man known for his dedication to prayer and ceremonies as: a Sundancer, a Pipe carrier, and a flag carrier. He was a Shubenacadie residential school survivor, and a proud member of the Mi'kmaq community. He was a part of the Turtle Clan and descendant of Hereditary Grand Chief Benjamin Paul, known as Louis-Benjamin Peminuit and descendant of the hereditary Putus’ line Andrew Alex and Grand Chief John Denny Sr.
He earned a Business certificate with the Eskasoni Cohort Program but was well known as a skilled Carpenter. He was a respected elder and an advocate for preserving our traditional culture. He always greeted everyone with a huge smile and his famous line “Well now, _____(name)!” Andrew was a forgiving, gentle and wonderful friend whose kind heart shined in every room he entered. He loved a good laugh and always told the best stories. He will always be remembered by his gentle nature and winning smile.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his partner Nora Bernard, his children Jason (Beth) Dorey and Dale (Rachael) Poulette, his grandchildren; Maislynn, Maynson, Bella, Angie Joy, Presley, Justin and Prentice Jr “PJ”, Isabelle and Jocelyne. His siblings: Doris (Keith) Dawson, John Henry Lafford and Harry Lafford. Also missed by his godchildren Cheryl Denny, Frank Charles Toney, Amanda Lafford-Johnson, and Tammy Lafford.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers: Levi, Lloyd, Benjamin and Roger Lafford, his sister June Lewis and his son Prentice Johnson and his best friends Donald Marshall Jr. and Emmitt Peters.
Visitation will take place at the Elders Center, 19 Medicine Trail, Eskasoni, NS starting at 7pm on Monday, August 3rd, 2026. Andrew (Face) Lafford’s wished to have a traditional send off. His Salite’ to follow at the Gabriel Center, 50 Gabriel St. Eskasoni, on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 at 10:30am. Cremation will take place on a later date.
