In her young life, she has completed so much. Auriel was everyone’s friend. Everyone knew her and loved her. She was BFFs with so many, but especially Julianna, Paul, Audianna, Kristen, Damaris, Jewel, Mare, Jade, Chan, Steph and Emilee. She had friends in many different circles, and always had the tea; she always knew what was going on in the community!
She loved to travel and go on trips with her mom and her friends. If it was a weekend trip to Maine, going to a concert, camping somewhere, or to her favourite place in the world, Las Vegas, she as down for the trip! In the summer you’d find her following in the footsteps of her Grandma Barbara, filling the traditional role of washing “our” Se’t A’n, with her mom in Potlotek. Then you’d find her in the barrens in Maine cooking and helping her dad and brothers after raking blueberries.
But for everything that she was for others, Auriel’s love for her family was the focus of her short life. She was not a mother, but she was always that Auntie for all the children in her life. She loved hard and cared for so many others, especially her god children: Cammy, the late Aidan Denny, Cedar Denny, Margaret, Ekklit, Toni, and Voila. This is evident with all her tattoos which all meant something important to her and represented many of those children. She loved all her babies.
Knowing that she was met in Wa’so’q by her village (Grandma Barbara, Grandpa Jake, Wklnikn Aidan, her Auntica and Matriarch Wanda) gives her family some comfort. She was also met by her Ta’ta Oliver Sr. and Kekkunit Rhon. Her life of late has been a challenge and knowing now that she is comforted and at peace brings us some ease during this difficult time for her family.
Left to mourn are so many people that loved her: her parents: Charisma and Oliver (Sappy), her brothers: Oliver III (Shawnee), Jack Tyler (Emma), Christopher, Parker, and Irving ji’j, her sisters: Leandra, Amelia, Miley and Emily. Her Grandma QB Phyllis. Her Grandad Roderick Phillips. Her uncles: Michael R (Koran), Sulian (Liz), Matthew Rivera, Noel Frank (Selena), Toby (Charmaine), Curtis, and Monk (Emma). Her aunts: Georgina Doucette, Carrie (Serge) and Charlene. Also her Kekkunit Pete Marshall.
The center of Auriel’s whole world was her nieces and nephew who will miss their Auntie: Vayla Jane, Aida Joy and Oliver IV.
The wake will be held at the Gabriel Centre in Eskasoni on Monday, June 29, starting at 6:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 1, starting at 10:00am at the Holy Family Parish in Eskasoni, officiated by Fr. Antolin Asor, followed by burial, feast, and Salite.
