It`s with broken hearts we the family of Debra Lenora Young regret to announce her passing Friday, June 19,2020 at home with her loving family at her side. Debbie was born in Sydney May 28th. 1957, to the late Reg and Anne Reynolds. After graduation from Holy Angels High, Debbie moved on to Halifax where she began her working career at Bird Stairs. After meeting her future husband Tommy, she moved back to Sydney, working for Devco for 22 years. She moved on to the career center in North Sydney, followed by several years of service to the Sydney Coal Railway. Debbie`s working career continued with stops at Marquis Realty, and Roger Burns Realty. These were Debbie`s paying jobs. Her work schedule never ever ended at 5 o`clock. Being a mother was Debbie`s greatest accomplishment. Debbie`s whole life was devoted to raising her two children. Debbie was always involved in every aspect of her children`s lives. She would teach them not only their schoolwork, but also how to conduct their lives in the way she conducted hers. A tireless volunteer, with not only all of the various athletic teams the children were involved with, but also the fund raising, the week-end tournaments across the Maritimes, the cold early mornings at the rinks, along with managing many of the teams and leagues. That alone would tire most people, but not Debbie. She was a member of Sydney Academy advisory board. She taught religion classes at St. Joseph`s church in Sydney for many years along with coordinating the Eucharistic Ministers, and a member of the CWL. The Hospital Foundation was one of many organizations that benefited from Debbie`s infectious enthusiasm. Debbie was like a speeding comet who gathered many in her wake. Being a part of the Festival of the Greens was one of her greatest achievements. Throughout her life she continued to give of her time and talents to the community she loved. She sat on many boards in her life and every one of them has been enriched because of her presence. Her last huge volunteer effort was The Royal Canadian Legion National Track and Field Games, held at CBU in August of 2019. Her husband was the local chair of the event, but most people know that Debbie`s cool guiding hand was at the helm. Debbie was first diagnosed with cancer July of 2011. She promised herself that that would not stop her and it did not. In February of 2019, again she was diagnosed with cancer, but it did not stop her. She would get off the chemo chair and come to CBU to assist in running the track meet. On May the 29th. 2020 again the devastating news that it was back. Throughout Debbie`s life she has touched the lives of many people. Her footprint in this community is very large. It`s been said many times that to know Debbie was to love Debbie. She was loved and will be missed by so very many. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her father-in-law Weldon, brothers-in-law Allan Young, and Jon Clipperton. Debbie is survived by her husband of forty years Tom, son Joel (Vickie) daughter Shannon (Andrew), and her precious grand-children Blake, Wolf, and Dylan. mother-in-law, Mary Young. Debra was a loving sister to Edward Reynolds (Patsy), Marie Clipperton, Regina Doherty, Kelly Lawrence (Oriville). Sisters-in-law, Hillary, Judi Macleod (Brian), Dede Young, brothers-in-law, Brian (Norma), Danny (Dale), Greg (Brenda) , loved niece of, Ron and Barbara Fitzgerald, Marie and Leo Hogan, Pat and Sandra Reynolds, Theresa Reynolds, Mamie Yetman. Worshiped “Auntie” to many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren, along with many cousins. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 2-4 & 7-9 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. As per Debbie`s wish, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Debbie`s memory be made to the Cape Breton Hospice Build Campaign. Debbie was a deeply dedicated volunteer, and worked tirelessly on behalf of the Cape Breton Hospice Project.
