Deniro Mark Joseph Googoo

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved DeNiro Mark Joseph Googoo, who was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on October 19, 1997, and passed away on September 14, 2026, at the age of 28.

Known to his gaming friends as “Z"; if you were lucky enough to be in his inner circle, you had a friend for life. He will be remembered for his unique personality, his humour, his love of music, gaming, hiking, and most of all, for his endless care for the people in his circle.

DeNiro graduated from A.B.M.H.S in 2016. He later worked for several years as a Security Guard with the Eskasoni Band, where he became familiar to many in the community.

DeNiro enjoyed his daily walks with the family dog Rocket, especially their walks to the Cross. He found comfort and connection through attending A.A. meetings, where he recently celebrated an important milestone by receiving his 10-month chip.

DeNiro had a special way of making connections through music. For him, music was a shared language. He loved seeing what his favorite people were listening to. The friendships he formed meant a great deal to him, and the memories shared through laughter, music, and gaming will remain with those who knew and loved him.

His favourite saying, “No cap,” was just one of those little things that made DeNiro who he was and will surely bring a smile to the faces of those who remember him. Always real and unapologetically blunt, whether he was teasing his sister or telling it like it was, his unfiltered humor was always paired with love.

DeNiro will be deeply missed by his parents Kissy Googoo and Sean Ryan Paul, and his biological father Eric Gabriel; his siblings, Keisha Googoo, Nathaniel Herney, Blade Sylliboy, and Eddie Sylliboy; his aunts, Jeannie, Julia, Donna and Lisa; uncles, Noel, Bryan, and Chris; nephew Kaius and niece Willow; his godmother, Jeannie; and his maternal grandmother, Roxanna Herney. He was predeceased by his uncle, Kenny Googoo Jr., and his godfather, Pierro Johnson Jr.

Visitation will be held at the Eskasoni Gabriel Centre, 50 Gabriel St, Eskasoni beginning Saturday, September 26th at 5pm for Family and 7pm for community members, continuing until the funeral service Monday, September 28, 2026, 10:00 am at Eskasoni Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr.
