It is with immense sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved family member – Laureen Theresa Paul. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Laureen is the loving daughter of the late Melvin Daniel (Melvyn) and Margaret Marie (Ma’kit) Paul. She was facing serious health issues recently, and passed away peacefully in Membertou on August 1, 2026 at the age of 57.
Laureen was the matriarch of her immediate family, and her roles of grandmother, mother, sister, aunty, godmother, friend, and ally will live on forever in our lives. Left to mourn are her daughters Lovey, Katana, and son Kaeden. Five grandchildren Laynie, Lennox (Lovey), Ayden, Aylin (Katana), and Westyn (Kaeden) and another grandbaby on the way.
She was predeceased by her husband Ronald Zachary, her parents Melvin Daniel and Margaret Marie Paul, brother Daniel Joseph Paul, and niece Shaylene Cecelia Mae Johnson; her Godparents the late James (Jimmy) Joe, and the late Sarah Jane (Sally) Johnson. She is survived by her siblings Darlene Anganis, Clifford Paul, Blair Paul, Kimberley Paul, Judy A. Marshall, Nicholas Isaac, and Brian J. Johnson. Also in mourning are her Godchildren Sherilyn Johnson, Jody Paul, and Jesse Bear.
Laureen loved her family immensely. She was looked upon as the cool mom and aunty who would provide love, and a beautiful safe environment for her children, nieces, nephews, and all of their friends. She carried on the strong family tradition of being kind and generous to everyone she met and knew. Incredibly loyal to her family, Laureen loved each and everyone of us unconditionally and without judgement. Her uniqueness is rare and the family is honored to be blessed with her loving, graceful presence for the past 57 years. She was helpful and kind to everyone in need - incredible good deeds accomplished silently and without public recognition. Her humility was strong and unparalleled, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Laureen Theresa Paul will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family thanks everyone for their kindness and love shown in our time of need. We recognize her family physician Dr. Mohan S. Virick, the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Unit 4A, the staff of the Renal Dialysis Unit, and the paramedics who worked tirelessly to save her life. Thank you.
Laureen’s wake will be held at her daughter's (Katana Paul) home, 18 Viola Awti, Membertou starting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday Aug 11th until the funeral. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m, Thursday Aug 13th at St. Marguerite Bourgeoy's Church, 40 Cabot St., Sydney.
