It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sophie Pierro on September 24, 2026, at the age of 77 years. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends. Although our hearts are shattered by her loss, we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering.
Mom was truly one of a kind. She was young at heart, fun, vivacious, loving, caring, strong, supportive and above all, brave. Her beautiful smile, laughter, kindness and warmth that she brought into our lives will stay with us forever. She showed incredible strength throughout her two battles with cancer. Sophie previously overcame breast cancer. Then in September 2025 Sophie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given only one month to live. She has earned her peaceful rest.
We cannot forget to mention that our mother was a survivor of the Shubenacadie Residential School. As a child, she endured unimaginable pain and experiences that no child should ever have to face. She carried the weight of those experiences throughout her life, yet she continued to show incredible strength and resilience. Although her childhood was marked by trauma, it did not define the beautiful person she became. She went on to build a life filled with family, friendships, music, laughter, community and love.
We honour mom not only for all that she endured, but for the strength it took to keep moving forward. Her story is one of survival, resilience and above all, love. We will carry her memory, her strength and her story with us always.
In our teen years, our mother attended Laurentian University in Ontario where she studied to become a Community Health Representative (CHR). She went on to work with the Wagmatcook Health Department for several years, a job she was very proud of and one that allowed her to care for and connect with the people in the community.
Mom loved her country music and could be found singing along to her favourite tunes. She also loved playing tv bingo every Sunday and Wednesday. Her favourite show as "Dateline" because she loved true crime. Before her two heart attacks, two years ago, she was always on the go and rarely sat still for long. You could often find her running around the neighbourhood, dropping in on her friends and family, visiting, laughing and having a cup of tea. She also loved her Tim Horton's tea!
