It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley John Reppa, age 91 of Sydney, Nova Scotia on September 6, 2026 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Stanley and Louise (Strickey) Reppa.
Stan graduated from Sydney Academy and later attended Dalhousie University where he completed a degree in Social Work. His kindness and compassion for people was exemplified in his 30 plus year career with the Family Division of the Supreme Court in Sydney. Stan was passionate about sports as a young man, especially basketball and hockey. He was involved in minor sports as a coach and volunteer for many years. Dad enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He was an avid fisher who loved to joke and banter with his friends on the water while salmon fishing on the Margaree River in Cape Breton or the Grey River in Newfoundland. Post retirement he took up golf and although always competitive, it was the companionship and laughs on the course that outweighed any score of the round.
Stan’s Christian faith was very important to him. He served on several parish councils in Sydney and his beliefs led him to give generously to many community organizations. He was married for over 67 years to the love of his life, Estelle (Martell). The foundation of their love was based on mutual respect, kindness and Christian faith. He is also survived by his children Francis (Sue) and Sharon, his sisters Margie (Jim Johnson) and Sally (John MacLean deceased) and extended Reppa and Martell families. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Rudolph and Bernard.
Stan was fiercely loyal and always loved an opportunity to gather with family and friends to share stories and lots of laughter. He was very loved and was a guiding light right up until his last day and he will be missed more than words can express. A very special thank you to Dr. John Archibald, Dr. Alana Soares, Nurse Rebecca Hunt and the wonderful staff who cared for him at the CBRH. Special gratitude to his nephew Michael Reppa, sister Margie Johnson, husband Jim, nephew Father Barrett Claire-Johnson and extended family for loving and caring for Stan. Also thank you to the staff at Rideout House for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
