Dearest Mama,

I am writing this with a heavy heart.  This is one of the hardest things that I have had to do.  Since the first day I met you 13 years ago, you opened your heart to me.  You made me part of your family from that first hug.  That has been the greatest gift.  I have always felt loved by you and thought of as another daughter to you.   How lucky I have been all these years.

You were truly a remarkable woman who devoted all of her life to her family and instilled in your children and loved ones the importance of love, giving back, loyalty, tradition and keeping the family unit strong.  Your presence was unmatched, love unconditional, passionate about the truth, and sacrificed all too much.

I will cherish all the talks, laughs and time spent together.  They meant the world to me.  I will miss all the calls and skypes that were made.  I will miss seeing you light up every time you saw your beauties Peyton and Avery.  The quality of time spent with the girls although short, was immense and unforgettable.  They will remember through our love for you the phenomenal woman, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and adviser that you were.   Anyone who came in contact with you were touched by you and for all those who have loved you - are blessed forever.

You were just as much a mother to me as my own.  I am now mourning the loss of a mother – my second mother. You have helped me personally in so many ways.  You were my safe place.

One of the last conversations that we had, you told me that your son Davey was happy, loved and taken care of because of me and that he loved me very much.  You left this world in peace knowing the love that we share and the devotion to each other will always be.  He gives me wings, watches me fly, and catches me when I fall.

I can continue on in life knowing that you are at peace and with love surrounding you as only you deserve.  You have been a true blessing in my life, and I will hold on to you always.  I love you Mama.

As I say goodbye to my last grandparent, I hear the voices of those who say how blessed I am to have had you in my life for so long.  I argue that it wasn’t long enough, but I do know I was blessed to have your unconditional love for all those years.  There is a special kind of love you only receive from a grandparent, and that love can never be replaced.  I am also blessed to know that all three of my sons received that love and had the chance to know and love their Nona.  They will remember a strong, loving woman who spoke her mind with an unforgettable sense of humor - A woman who lived for her family and cherished all of their accomplishments and encouraged them through their disappointments.  I have so many memories from my summer vacations with you and Hum Hum, plus all of our holidays we spent in Tampa.  I was comforted knowing you were only a phone call away or that it would be a short time till I saw you again.  I must now learn how to live without that comfort, but I am comforted in knowing you are with Hum Hum, Tia Mante, Mini, Kin Kin and all of our saints, and that I will see again.

What a gift for us to have known your mother, David. A woman of grace, she was full of the light of Jesus; now she's with our Father as royalty enjoying the rest of her inheritance! Hallelujah! This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  I never wanted this day to come, Tia.  I would sooner ask my heart to stop beating than to say goodbye to you.  When experiencing the loss of a loved one, I have often heard others say that they had a hole in their heart.  I now know what they meant, for now one lies in mine.  Tia, for you I reserved the most sacred love.  You were a part of me as much as my mother and sister.  My heart is broken now, and when time tries to mend it together again, there will always be a piece missing.  I will miss your voice, your laughter, your humor, and your love.  Without you, my sun will not shine as brightly, and my stars will not twinkle as magically, but my life will be forever richer for having loved, and for having been loved by, you.  I will miss you every day of my life, Tia.  Those who knew you, and those who were loved by you, were privileged.  I will forever be blessed.  My dearest Tia, I will hurt every day that you are not here with us, but I will be comforted by knowing that you are at peace now with those whom you love. You have been a mother to me ever since you took me under your wing when Diana and I first met. You guided me and and loved me as if I were one of your own children, but you truly became my Mama when my own Mama went to Heaven six years ago. That's when I started calling you Mama instead of Alicia. 
Losing my own mother became more tolerable knowing that I still had a mother to continue to nurture and love me beyond my loss. Now I face the loss of a mother all over again and the pain is no less tolerable, yet I would never ever give up the joy and love that you brought me for the pain I feel at losing you. 
You will always hold a very special place in my heart and I will love you for the rest of my life.

  There are no words to measure how much you meant to all of us. I know you were concerned about being a burden, but the only burden you gave us was the hole that now appears since you are gone.
   Amanda and the kids are so thankful to God for giving us the time we had together, and I am given strength  by the fact that you are once again re-united with all of our loved ones in heaven. Give Papa, Tia Manti and Abuela our love and know that even though I am devasted by your loss, I will live the rest of my life honoring you and Papa and looking towards the day when we will all be together again.

Mama,
I'm sitting at your desk and I can feel you all around me.  I hear your  laughter and every once in a while I hear one of your spanish sayings that I always try to remember.  Papa is at the table doing the crossword puzzle as you make cafe con leche.  Every now and then Papa will ask you a question on the puzzle which you always have an answer for.

Your love for your children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could not be match.  How many five, ten & fifteen year olds can say they knew their Great-grandmother.  You listen to our problems and gave advise whether we wanted to hear it or not.  Even in your suffering you had time for us.  It has been a long road, but your suffering is over.  Like I told you the night that you left us, you are now 33 yrs. old, 125 lbs., you have your long black hair and of course all your teeth.  Mama you were a mother to many and a friend to all.  You have been our rock and glue and I will always love, miss you and try to make you proud.  Give my love to Papa and all our love ones.

Your unconditional love was always a great example in my life. Your fiestiness and passion of family were also paramount. Mama, your suffering is over now and we can rest easy knowing that you are in heaven with Papa, Tia Mante, and the rest of your loved ones that went before you. Diana, Joseph, and myself were so lucky to have had you as our mother. We could always count on you for support or even a kick in the butt when we needed it. You were present everyday in our lives. You saw the world through the eyes of your loved ones, and your family was always your number one priority. I always looked forward to seeing your face when you carried your grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was like air for you, holding them and kissing them and bouncing them. They always loved being on "Vella's waterbed". When something wonderful happened in our lives, you felt more joy then we did. It was as if the wonderful thing happened to you. Your love was unconditional and you were always there when we needed you, in good times and bad. I can't imagine my life without you in it. Who will I call when I need advice? Who will I call when I have question about my children? You always gave us the confidence that we would make the right decision. Who will give me that confidence now? I love you Mama and I will miss you more than I can express. 85 years wasn't long enough to have you.

her life was a shining example of the ideal daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and most of all, for me, my unforgettable AUNT!!! My childhood memories are flooded with your unique presence and your incomparable spirit. Your loss is tremendously heart-felt. You had a special way of listening, hugging, kissing and encouraging...always real, always true. Thank you with everything I am for being like a mother to my mother and for taking such precious care of my sister as a child. You will be sorely missed but forever cherished and remembered as a dynamic woman in my life!
