Gunderson, Avis, 88 passed away February 3, 2018. Her heart was unable to keep up with her active life style and her zest for life. Born Avis Maxine Napp in Fennimore, WI on January 20, 1930, she was raised in a family of two lively older brothers, delighting and emerging in the camaraderie. The Napp siblings, always looking to entertain themselves or others, often went to the Fennimore tavern to sing. Avis cherished this time and continued throughout her life to create memorable gatherings.
Avis is preceded in death by her spouse, A. Duane Gunderson; her parents, Selma and Elmer Napp; and her brothers, Nelson and Sam Napp. She is survived by her children Scott Gunderson of Tampa, FL and Cindy Gunderson of Austin, TX; sister-in laws, Jo Napp of Miami, AZ and Joyce Gunderson of Lawrenceville, GA; nieces Jody Rappe and husband Al of Sun Prairie, WI and Mary Switzer and husband JR of Warner Robins, GA; nephews, Elliot Napp of Madison, WI, Gary Napp and spouse Trinka of Tucson, AZ and Tom Gunderson and spouse, Yvette of Chicago, IL.
A member of many organizations including Old Brass, Coterie, the New Tampan Grads, Stitch and Bitch, Book Club, and the Carrollwood Area Woman’s Club, Avis kept extremely busy. If there was an event, Avis would be there. If there wasn’t, she’d construct something.
Avis was known for her larger than life expressions, stories and love for others. She was funny, optimistic, and a go-getter. She brightened the lives of all she knew or needed to get to know better. She was an avid Football fan, especially for her Packers and Badgers.
A celebration of her well lived life will be on March 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, 3714 Linebaugh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation on line at
