

In her early years, Carmen worked in fiberglass manufacturing, helping build boats with skill and determination. She later dedicated over 20 years of service as an EKG Technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, where she was known for her compassion and commitment to caring for others before retiring.
Carmen was also a wonderful cook who expressed her love through food, bringing family together with her meals and creating lasting memories around the table, especially for her renowned empanadas.
Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Humberto Hernandez, and her mother, Dionisia Mercado.
She is survived by her loving son Chino (Denora) and her daughter, Maida (Robert). Carmen was a proud grandmother to Jaleeza, Erik, Giovanni (Jessica), Thalia, Mya, Mark, Amanda, and Cierra and a cherished great-grandmother to Anthony, Lilly, and JuJu. Her family was the center of her life, and she found her greatest joy in being surrounded by them.
Carmen will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and the love she gave so freely. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 10:30AM to 12:30PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 N. Dale Mabry Hwy Tampa, FL 33614 with funeral services beginning at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4204 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610 at 2:00PM.
