

Deborah “Debi” Ann Yerger Leath, 64 passed away on Sunday, November 1st at her home in Tampa, surrounded by her family. Debi was born on May 25th, 1956 in Pottstown, PA to Charles and Elizabeth Yerger, where she was raised until 1972 when her parents and sister relocated to Tampa, FL. After moving to Tampa, she attended Robinson High School for her junior and senior years. Debi graduated from Robinson High School in 1974 and from Charter Oak State College in 2014 with her Associate in Arts degree, with a concentration in health care management. For 43 years she worked for Aetna Healthcare as a Senior Fraud Investigator. On August 26th, 1988 she married her husband of 32 years William Leath, together they raised two sons Matthew and Jeremy.
Debi had a passion for music, in High School she was a member of the varsity marching band, the stage band, and the pep band as a performer of multiple instruments. Her musical talent eventually led to her earning a college scholarship to attend Hillsborough Community College. Debi also had a passion for helping others, she was a volunteer for the Suncoast Girl Scout Council from 1983 to 1989 and a volunteer for Interbay Little League from 1994 to 2006. During her time at Interbay Little League she held a seat on the board of directors, was Vice President multiple years and held the position of President in 2001 cumulating in her being named Volunteer of the year in 2001 & 2002. Throughout all of this she was also an active participant in her son’s schools, serving as a member of the PTSA board at every level of their education.
Those that knew Debi though knew her greatest passion was her family, always putting them before herself. She cherished vacations where she got to travel and spend time with family and friends in her home state of Pennsylvania and loved to take trips to the beach, mountains and to go on cruises with her family.
Debi was preceded in death by her father Charles Yerger and mother Elizabeth Yerger. She is survived by her husband William, their sons Matthew and Jeremy, her sister Susan Singleton-Slaten (Dan), sister-in-law Susan Ray (Mark Sr.), brothers-in-law Douglas Leath (Tess) and Thomas Leath, nephews Dewey Singleton (Tara), Mark Ray Jr. (Keitha), Garrett Leath, Owen Leath, nieces Alana Singleton-Stoeck (Peter) and Vanessa Ray-Swarts (Jeff), 8 grand nephews and nieces and 2 rescue dogs Lulu Belle and Gizmo.
A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, November 9th, 2020 with visitation starting at 12:30pm and ceremony starting at 1:30pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home-MacDill Chapel, 605 S. MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL. A grave side service will commence at 3pm at Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, FL.
