Donald Guy Greiwe, 74, of Tampa, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, after a 5-year battle with cancer. Born in Tampa, Florida, on July 28, 1951, he was a life-long resident of the area. He attended and graduated from Christ the King Catholic School and Jesuit High School and was a member of the 1968 Jesuit High School State Championship Football team. He then attended the University of Notre Dame, where he played rugby, and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1973. He attended Law School at the University of Miami and graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 1976.
He married Mary Beth Mulcahy on June 15, 1975 and later divorced in 1994. He then married Robin Dawn Musselman on March 15, 1997.
Don worked as a trial attorney in Tampa for close to 45 years. Don began his career as a trial lawyer with the law firm of Fowler, White, Boggs & Banker, P.A. in 1976, where he honed his craft in the courtroom for over 10 years. In 1988, Don joined the law firm of Wagner, Cunningham, Vaughn & McLaughlin, P.A. where he began the work that became his calling: fighting injustice and inequity by representing individuals and families in cases of wrongful death, medical malpractice, and product liability cases. Alongside his longtime partner Jim Clark, Don founded the highly regarded civil trial law firm of Clark & Greiwe, P.A., which later became Alley, Clark & Greiwe, P.A. after the two joined with Todd Alley in 2006. Don was especially proud of Alley, Clark & Greiwe’s representation of victims of the tobacco industry, for whom they successfully obtained justice again and again against “Big Tobacco”. A tireless and talented advocate, Don was respected in the legal community as much for his professionalism and civility as for his skill in front of a jury. Don was a longstanding member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and served as the President of its Tampa Bay Chapter in 1998 – 1999. He also served for two terms on the Executive Council of Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar.
Outside of the courtroom, Don’s passion was his family. Don instilled his values of hard work and discipline into his four children at home and at school, and the athletic arena. He coached his sons and daughters at Tampa Bay Little League and Palma Ceia Little League in baseball and softball, respectively, where he enjoyed coaching with his friends and brother, Tom. A devoted husband, Don celebrated his 28th wedding anniversary with his wife Robin this year, whom he loved fiercely. Don was at home in the water, with daily morning swims during stays at the family beach house on North Redington Shores, and 2 relay races around Key West under his belt. In the North Carolina mountains, Don would spend sunsets on the back deck with a glass of wine, mapping out the next day’s hikes. Don often said he was the luckiest guy on the planet, and anyone that met him knew that he believed that to his core. Don was a constant and reliable source of advice, love, and encouragement to his loved ones, and always seemed to know the right thing to say and the right time to say it. His words of wisdom and support will be missed.
A true competitor, Don was known to never back down from a challenge, be it on the rugby pitch, football field, basketball court, or in the courtroom. An early champion of the sport of rugby in Tampa Bay, Don was a founding member of the Pelican Rugby Club and a vaunted alumnus of the University of Notre Dame Rugby Football Club. An experienced triathlete, Don could often be seen competing in races around Tampa Bay. Throughout his life, he particularly enjoyed the game of golf and could be seen on the greens and fairways at Palma Ceia Country Club with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Robin, his sons Michael (Molly) and Don (Jessica), and his daughters Emily and Abby, his grandchildren, Nathan, Madelyn, Ryan, Aiden, Elizabeth, Katherine, Shannon and Donnie, his sisters Robin (Bill), Connie, Genevieve (Ray), and his brother Bam (Leticia). He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Hayden Greiwe (Kim) and his parents, Thomas Hoppe Greiwe (born in Cincinnati, Ohio) and Consuelo Dickinson Greiwe (born in Louisville, Kentucky).
A funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 2:00 PM on September 18, 2025, located at 812 S Dale Mabry Hwy Tampa, FL 33609. A celebration of Don’s life will commence following the funeral mass at Palma Ceia Country Club located at 1601 S MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL, 33629 from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (www.pcfcares.org), where he served on the Board of Directors for many years.
