It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine Catherine Ann Brandl (Schmieg) from Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2020, at the age of 85, surrounded by her children.
Elaine was born on February 19, 1935 in Hennepin, Minnesota, to Benedict and Margaret (Schutrop) Schmieg, the oldest of 11 children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Victoria Catholic Church. On May 23, 1953 she married James Brandl and had four children. They moved to Tampa Florida in 1962. She worked for and retired from Montgomery Ward, and then went on to work for Bank of America (previously Nation’s Bank) for over 20 years before she finally retired in 2002. She served and held various positions with the Incarnation Council of Catholic Women, Columbiettes, and Eastern Star. She believed in helping others, and was an active volunteer for Heaven’s Kitchen and Tampa Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Benedict Schmieg and Margaret Schmieg (Schutrop); her husband James Brandl; her sister Theresa Derhaag; and her brother Kenneth Schmieg.
Elaine is survived by: her children, Donna Popovich, Michael (Debbie) Brandl, Christine (Gary) Duncan, and David (Regina) Brandl; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her siblings, Norbert Derhaag, Irene Pratt (Don), Jerome Schmieg (Doris), Betty Derhaag (Richard), Mildred Preslicka (Don), Phyllis Koepp (Curt), Phillip Schmieg (Cheryl), Robert Schmieg and Diane Stewart (Nolan). She is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Blount & Curry West Chapel, 6802 Silvermill Dr., Tampa. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 am, Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Incarnation Catholic Church, 8220 W. Hillsborough Ave. Tampa.
In lieu of flowers, we are remembering Elaine with a contribution to Feeding Tampa Bay or the American Lung Association.
