Frank was born in Steelton, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1928. He graduated from Swatara Township High School in 1945 and then spent five years in the U.S. Navy. After leaving military service, Frank chose to seek an education at Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pennsylvania as a member of the class of 1954. There he studied in the history department under the watchful eye of Professor Maud Laughlin, a noted educator in her day. While at LVC Frank played varsity football and baseball. He also earned an instructional certificate enabling him to teach social studies and coach football at his high school alma mater which by then had become the Central Dauphin School District
in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In 1955, he married a fellow LVC classmate, Gail Edgar, also a teacher in the neighboring district of Cumberland Valley near Mechanicsburg. Together they also created a wonderful family: Christopher and his wife, Stephanie, now living in Park City, Utah; Kimberly and her partner, Darryn Tilden, another daughter, Kelly, and the youngest son, Kerry, who was by his father’s side at the time of his death.
Frank enjoyed a long career in teaching, coaching, and school administration. In 1961, he accepted a teaching and coaching position at Woodrow Wilson High School in Levittown, Pennsylvania. After completing a Master’s degree from Penn State, Frank became an athletic director and school principal in the Council Rock School District in neighboring Newtown, Pennsylvania in the early 1970s. There he remained until his retirement in 1991.
In 1994, when his wife retired and his family was “off on their own”, he and Gail moved to a warm community in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina where they enjoyed making new and lasting friends, playing daily rounds of golf, and living the good life. There they remained until age and health caused a final move to Tampa, Florida where three of their children reside.
Services commemorating Frank’s life will be held on November 13, 2024 from 11 AM-2 PM at Blount and Curry Life Events, 605 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa FL 33609. In lieu of flowers, it was Frank’s wish that memorial gifts be made to The Lebanon Valley College Blue and White Athletic Club, College Avenue, Annville, Pennsylvania. The college website is lvc.edu.
