

80, of Tampa, Fl., passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022 in the loving company of his wife & children. George was born in Havana, Cuba on October 3, 1941 and came to the United States in 1955 Dallas, Texas. He moved to Tampa permanently in 1961 as a result of the Castro Regime.
In Tampa, the youngest of his (3) siblings George took the leadership role of his family, Mother, Sister, and niece. Later he met his wife, Mary Spoto from Tampa and married in 1962. The two lived in Tampa and raised 4 children. In his early years, he was Sales Manager for Florida Filters where he learned the HVAC and Mechanical trade. At age 30, he opened his own business, George G. Solar & Co., Inc. and has proudly been President and Owner of the company which is currently operating for 51 years in Tampa. In 1991, he successfully passed the State Licensing Exam for Certified Building Contractor and transitioned his company into the Construction Industry. Notable projects undertaken have been The Garrison 6 terminal foundation in the early 90’s, Mechanical for the HVAC Distribution Systems for the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa Electric Company Coal Stacker Reclaim System, HVAC Fan Systems for the Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Airport Support Fence/ Building/Cooling tower projects, Hillsborough County Real Estate/Architectural Services projects, City of Tampa Parks & Recreation ADA infrastructure projects, City of Tampa West River Trail for University of Tampa Campus, City of Dunedin Marina Seawall & Dock Rehabilitation, and private work on rehabilitative work to (15) homes in disaster after the wake of Hurricane Andrew to the Miami Dade area.
George was an ambitious man but always a family man first, and did everything for his family to ensure them a secure life with opportunities. An avid lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed Fishing, Hunting, and time spent on his boat on the water and at his beach condo. Family gatherings at the beach during the summer and cruising to Island destinations were among his favorite. He enjoyed the woods and hunted whitetail deer in the company of his 2 sons and close friends in South Georgia for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Solar, daughter Cheryl Rodriguez and husband Marc, daughter Natalie Seward and husband John, son Christopher Solar and wife Lindsey, and son Martin Solar. In addition (5) grandchildren include, Alexia Solar, Zoe Solar, Pierce Rodriguez, Marie Seward, and Lauren Seward. In lieu of flowers please offer donations to Metropolitan Ministries & Feeding America. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 15 at 8:30am-10:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway Tampa, Florida immediately followed by a funeral mass. Entombment will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, 4202 E. Lake Avenue Tampa, Florida.
